Printful Mockup Generator
Pick Printful if consistency matters more than margin. You are buying a narrower range of outcomes from a single operator, which is worth real money when a bad print costs you a repeat customer rather than just a refund.
These two merged in November 2024 and still run as separate brands, which makes this stranger than it looks: you are choosing between two production models owned by one company. The mockup generators are near-identical and are not the decision.

Pick Printful if consistency matters more than margin. You are buying a narrower range of outcomes from a single operator, which is worth real money when a bad print costs you a repeat customer rather than just a refund.
Pick Printify if base cost is the constraint, or if you want the ability to change print partner without leaving the platform. The trade is variability: partners differ, and so can two orders of the same product.
Whichever prints your products, the listing images come out bare. If yours carry a title, a size chart or a logo, that is the part still done by hand.
Start with the fact that reframes the rest. Printful and Printify announced a merger on 5 November 2024, as equal partners, and said both brands would be maintained for the foreseeable future. This is not two rivals competing for you. It is one company offering two production models, which is why they have not converged on price or quality and probably will not soon.
Printful owns its production. It runs its own facilities and staff, which is why its base prices are higher and why what arrives tends to look the same from one order to the next. You are paying for a narrower range of outcomes.
Printify is a network. It brokers your order to one of many print partners, and you choose which. That is why the same product can be cheaper, and also why two orders of the same shirt can differ if they were printed in different places. The variability is not a defect; it is the shape of a marketplace.
The generators are close to interchangeable. Neither is billed for separately, because both are funded by the printing rather than sold to you, and both show that platform's own blanks, both handle artwork on a garment perfectly well, and both give you the same stock scenes every other seller on the platform is using. If your listing images are how you compete, neither is the answer, and that is true of both equally.
| What you are comparing | Winner | Why |
|---|---|---|
| Print consistency | Printful Mockup Generator | One operator running its own facilities produces a narrower range of outcomes than a network of independent partners does. |
| Base cost | Printify | Partners compete for your order, which is the whole point of a marketplace. The same garment is usually cheaper here. |
| Choice of partner | Printify | You pick who prints, and can switch if quality slips. Printful is Printful; there is nothing to choose between. |
| Support when it goes wrong | Tie | Reviewers complain about both, at similar volume and about similar things: slow responses and scripted replies when an order fails. |
| Mockup generator | Tie | Bundled with the printing on both, drawn from each platform's own catalogue, and using the same shared scenes as every other seller there. |
| Switching cost later | Printify | Being able to change print partner inside one account is cheaper than changing platforms, which reviewers describe as weeks of work. |
Enterprise tier is custom priced. AI Mockups are a Premium feature, not free.
Our own pricing.
Base cost is where a print on demand shop lives or dies, and partner competition is what moves it.
One operator, one set of outcomes. Worth the higher base cost when a bad print costs you a repeat customer.
A network usually has someone closer to your customer, which does more for delivery time than any platform feature.
Both generators stop at the bare garment. Titles, sizing and logos are still added by hand afterwards, on either platform.

Printful's built in generator. Free, and it renders the exact blanks Printful will actually print.
Sellers fulfilling through Printful who want accurate, free product shots without leaving the workflow.

A print on demand fulfilment platform whose AI mockup generator sits behind the Premium plan alongside the catalogue and order routing.
Enterprise tier is custom priced. AI Mockups are a Premium feature, not free.
Sellers already fulfilling through Printify who want product images that match their catalogue exactly and never leave the platform.
They only offer DTG in Europe with a small print area and the print does not match the preview given on the website.
I can not delete my products off my dashboard. Your chat helper, the human one, could not help me---not their fault. The three dots do not give me "delete" as an option.
WARNING: Don't use them. You'll regret it, especially after you devote significant time building a shop, uploading designs, etc.... it's all such a heavy investment of time and energy - that if you want to change print providers, you're looking at weeks of 10 hour days just to do it if you have a large shop.
I run a POD shop in Australia and targeting at Australia market. The product costs are much higher than the U.S market and there are only 2 suppliers (now we have a new one but it only run one product). There are very limited products for us to pick, for example, we don't have any toddler shirts, children shirt options are limited.
What does a bad print actually cost you? If it is a refund, optimise cost. If it is a repeat customer, optimise consistency.
Where are your customers? A partner near them beats any platform feature for delivery time.
Do you order samples before listing? If not, the consistency question decides itself.
Are your listing images the thing you compete on? If yes, neither generator settles it and you should not pick on that basis.
Both platforms hand you a clean shot of the product and stop there. The listing image most sellers actually publish has more on it: the product title, a size chart, a logo, sometimes a callout about the fabric. Today that gets added afterwards, per product, every time. That is the job we do. You describe the set once, then each new design comes back as the finished set with the text and branding already placed. It changes nothing about who prints your orders, which is the decision this page is actually about.
Since 5 November 2024, effectively yes. Printful's own newsroom announced a merger of equal partners and stated both brands would be maintained for the foreseeable future. They still run as separate platforms with different production models, so the comparison is real, but you are not choosing between competitors.
Neither, in the abstract. Printful is one operator running its own facilities, so outcomes vary less and cost more. Printify is a network of partners, so it is cheaper and more variable. Pick the trade that suits your margins.
They are close enough that it should not decide anything. Neither is billed separately, since both are paid for out of your printing costs, and both draw from stock scenes shared with every other seller on that platform.
Barely. Both generators produce the same kind of bare product shot from the same kind of shared scene library, so this decision is about printing rather than images. If the images are what you want to improve, Custom Mockup Generator handles that independently of who fulfils.
Yes, and plenty of sellers do, usually splitting by product type or by region. It costs nothing to keep both accounts open, since you pay per order rather than per month.
Printify, usually, because its partners compete for the order. Compare the specific product rather than the platform, since the gap varies a lot by item and by partner.
Harder than it sounds once a shop is built. One Printify reviewer describes changing print providers on a large shop as weeks of work, and that cost applies in either direction.
Describe your listing set once, then drop in each new design and get the whole set back with your title, size chart and logo already in place.
