Printify Mockup Generator Alternative

Printify is a marketplace, not a printer. Your order goes to one of several partners, and which one can change. That is the cheap, flexible part of the model, and it quietly complicates a question no mockup tool asks: which version of this product is the image actually showing?

Ranked for one job: whether one mockup can honestly represent a product that several different print partners might produce. Every tool below carries what it genuinely does better and the reader who should pick it instead.

Custom Mockup Generator

Set up your listing images once. Every new design comes back as the finished set, with your text, branding and logo already on it.

Where it wins
  • Your mockups can carry text, size charts and callouts, so the images you actually list are the ones being generated, not just the plain ones.
  • Your logo lands on every image in the set, same place, same size, without you nudging it into position eight times.
  • You define the set once. Adding a product reruns it instead of starting from scratch.
  • The scene adapts to your artwork. A red design picks up subtle red notes in the background, so every mockup is specific to that product instead of the same stock photo with your art pasted in.
  • Runs in a browser. No Photoshop licence, no plugin, nothing to install.
Where it stops
  • Newer than the big names, with a smaller ready made scene library than the giant template marketplaces.
  • Renders cost real money to produce, so the free tier is watermarked and metered rather than the flat unlimited price a template library can offer.
  • Built around a repeating listing set. If you only ever need one mockup of one product, that is more setup than the job deserves.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeWatermarked. A free account clears it
  • Paid$7/moStarting price

Sellers whose listing images carry their own text, layout or branding, and who add products often enough that rebuilding them by hand has become the annoying part of the week.

Printful homepage hero promoting its print on demand fulfilment
#2

Printful Mockup Generator

Printful's built in generator. Free, and it renders the exact blanks Printful will actually print.

Where it wins
  • It shows the same blank Printful will print, which kills a whole category of nasty surprises.
  • Free, and already sitting inside your workflow if you fulfil through Printful.
Where it stops
  • Only covers Printful's catalogue, so it does nothing for products you fulfil elsewhere.
  • Scenes and composition are fixed. No adding your own text panels or branding.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeFree, you pay for fulfilment
Choose this if

Sellers fulfilling through Printful who want accurate, free product shots without leaving the workflow.

#3

Gelato

A global print on demand network with local fulfilment, whose design and personalisation tools sit inside the selling workflow rather than beside it.

Where it wins
  • Local production in many countries, so shipping is shorter and cheaper than a single central printer can manage.
  • No commission and no upfront fee, so the free tier is genuinely free until you sell something.
Where it stops
  • Mockups only cover products Gelato itself prints. It is not a general purpose mockup tool.
  • The Gelato+ price is not published on the pricing page, so the real cost of the AI tools is unclear until you sign up.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeNo upfront fees, no commission. You pay per order
  • Gelato+Not publishedPrice not published on the pricing page. Adds AI tools and up to 33% off products

The pricing page covers order economics only; the Gelato+ subscription price is not stated there.

Choose this if

Sellers shipping internationally who want production close to the customer, and who are happy for product images to come from their fulfilment platform.

MyDesigns homepage hero promoting its print on demand workflow
#4

MyDesigns

A print on demand workflow tool that bundles bulk product mockups, bulk video mockups and listing automation into one subscription.

Where it wins
  • Bulk mockups and bulk video mockups in one place, which is closer to a listing workflow than a template library is.
  • The mockup generator is available on the free tier rather than locked behind the top plan.
Where it stops
  • Built around its own print on demand workflow, so it is a larger commitment than a tool you only want mockups from.
  • Paid tiers start at $19.99/mo, above several dedicated mockup tools in this list.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeMockup generator included
  • Starter$20/mo
  • Pro$40/mo
  • Pro Plus$80/mo

Annual billing advertised at 20% off. Custom mockups listed on every paid tier.

Choose this if

Print on demand sellers who want mockups, listing automation and video assets from one subscription and are willing to adopt its workflow.

Vexels homepage hero promoting licensed print on demand design assets
#5

Vexels

A print on demand design library first and a mockup tool second: finished, sellable artwork you licence rather than blank scenes you fill.

Where it wins
  • Sells the artwork itself, not just the scene, which is the actual bottleneck for a lot of print on demand sellers.
  • Licensing is explicit and merch-oriented, so what you may legally sell is stated rather than inferred.
Where it stops
  • No free tier, only a trial, so evaluating the library costs money.
  • Download quotas are per month and low on the entry plan, which caps how fast you can test designs.
  • The mockup side is thinner than the design side; it is not the reason to subscribe.
Pricing
  • Merch Starter$9/moBilled $109 annually. 30 stock downloads and 200 AI credits a month
  • Merch Seller$19/moBilled $226 annually. 100 downloads, unlimited online tools
  • Merch Expert$32/moBilled $382 annually. 200 downloads a month

Prices shown in USD from an Indian IP. Annual billing; the monthly figure is the annual price divided out, which is why it carries cents.

Choose this if

Print on demand sellers who want ready-made, licensed designs to sell and treat mockups as a bundled extra.

Ecomtent homepage hero promoting AI-generated marketplace listing content
#6

Ecomtent

Marketplace listing content at enterprise scale: images, infographics, A+ content and copy, published straight to Amazon.

Where it wins
  • Publishes directly to Amazon Seller and Vendor, Walmart and eBay rather than handing you files to upload.
  • Covers the whole listing rather than only the images: copy, infographics and A+ content as well.
  • Reports what Amazon's own AI search surfaces ask about your listings, which no mockup tool attempts.
Where it stops
  • Starts at $510 a month, which puts it outside the reach of the sellers most of this comparison is written for.
  • Built around existing product photography, so it is not a mockup generator in the sense used here.
Pricing
  • Seller / Vendor$510/moUp to 25 SKUs a month, three seats
  • Agency$1,360/moUp to 100 SKUs a month across unlimited accounts, ten seats
  • Retailer$5,100/moUp to 1,000 SKUs a month

Monthly rates shown; the page also offers quarterly and annual billing at a stated 25% saving. An order of magnitude above every other tool here, and priced for teams rather than sellers.

Choose this if

Established Amazon brands and agencies managing catalogues where listing content is a team's full-time job.

CreatorKit homepage hero promoting AI product images and video for online stores
#7

CreatorKit

AI product images and short video aimed at ecommerce ads, with a Shopify integration doing most of the work.

Where it wins
  • Video as well as stills, which matters if the listing images also have to work as ads.
  • Shopify integration pulls the catalogue in rather than making you upload product by product.
  • Unlimited generation means iterating costs nothing until you download.
Where it stops
  • Download caps are the real limit and they are low: ten a month on the $32 plan.
  • Built around photographs of real products, so it has little to offer someone placing artwork on a blank garment.
Pricing
  • FreeFree5 image downloads; generations unlimited
  • Pro$32/mo10 downloads across each feature, watermark removed
  • Business$82/mo50 downloads across each feature

Generations are unlimited on every tier; the download count is the actual limit, which is easy to misread as generous.

Choose this if

Shopify sellers with real product photos who need ad creative and short video as much as static listing images.

Pebblely homepage hero showing AI-generated backgrounds around product photos
#8

Pebblely

Upload a product photo, pick a theme, and get a generated scene around it. Metered by image rather than sold as a template library.

Where it wins
  • Generates a scene around a real product photo, which beats any template when the product itself is what you are selling.
  • Simple enough to use without learning a canvas: upload, pick a theme, done.
Where it stops
  • Starts from a photograph of an existing product, so it cannot help you list something you have not made yet.
  • Metered by image, so a heavy listing month costs more or stops early.
Pricing
  • Lite$9/mo30 images a month
  • Basic$19/mo200 images a month, bulk generate
  • Pro$39/mo500 images a month

No free tier listed on the pricing page, contrary to several aggregator posts. Yearly billing advertised as 2+ months free.

Choose this if

Sellers who already photograph their products and want better backgrounds, rather than sellers putting artwork onto a blank product.

Mockey homepage hero showing its free AI mockup generator
#9

Mockey

A free AI mockup generator with a wide catalogue, aimed at quick one off mockups.

Where it wins
  • Free across a big catalogue, with no install and no signup just to try it.
  • Broad coverage across apparel, print, packaging and devices.
Where it stops
  • One mockup at a time. There is no saved listing set that reruns for the next product.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeFree tier, paid upgrades

Paid tier pricing not captured yet.

Choose this if

Anyone who needs one quick mockup of a plain design and does not care about matching a house style.

#10

Canva Mockups

Canva's mockup feature, and now the home of Smartmockups too, bolted onto a full design editor.

Where it wins
  • Free, and already open in a tab on most sellers' screens. No newer tool gets to claim that.
  • A full design editor, so text, layout and branding go exactly where you want them.
  • It absorbed Smartmockups, so it inherited a big and well liked scene library.
Where it stops
  • Every listing image is assembled by hand. Nothing regenerates when you add a product.
  • Consistency depends on you remembering the exact position, size and crop you used last time. Good luck.
Pricing
  • FreeFreeMockups on the free plan

Paid tier pricing not captured yet.

Choose this if

Anyone already designing in Canva who lists rarely enough that rebuilding each image by hand has not started to hurt yet.

Should you switch from Printify?

Work out how many partners could fulfil the product before you worry about the mockup at all. On a single-partner product the built-in generator is honest: it shows that partner's blank and that is what ships. On a product routed to whichever partner is available, one image is standing in for several slightly different physical outcomes, and reviewers do report colour and placement differing between them. That is not a reason to leave Printify, which is usually cheaper for good reasons. It is a reason to know which of your listings the image is only approximately true for.

When Printify is still the right choice

Stick with Printify when

  • The generator is free with the platform and your margins are thin enough that free matters.
  • Your designs are artwork on blank products, which the built-in generator handles correctly.
  • You want a guarantee that the mockup shows the same item that ships.
  • You are still testing whether a design sells and have not earned the right to spend on it yet.

Consider switching when

  • Your listings look like every other Printify seller's, because they are drawn from the same scenes.
  • You need text, size charts or brand colours composited into the image itself.
  • You list the same design across several partners and need images that match between them.
  • You have moved past testing and image quality is now what separates you from the next listing.

Moving off Printify

Nothing moves, which is the part worth stating plainly. Printify does not require you to publish images from its own generator; product images are yours to upload.

That makes the change additive rather than a switch. Keep the account, the products and the print partners exactly as they are, make the listing images elsewhere, and upload those instead. If it does not improve anything, you have lost the time and nothing else, because no part of the fulfilment setup was touched.

The honest verdict

For a product with one print partner, Printify's generator is doing its job well and costs nothing, which is hard to argue with.

The caveat is structural to the marketplace rather than to the tool. When a product can be produced by more than one partner, a single mockup represents an average rather than an item, and the seller carries the gap when a customer receives something a shade different from the picture. No image tool fixes that; choosing the partner explicitly does, and so does knowing which listings are exposed to it.

Frequently asked questions

Is Printify's mockup generator free?

Yes, it comes with the platform. Printify earns on production and shipping, so the generator is a convenience attached to that rather than a product being sold to you.

Can I upload my own mockups to Printify?

Yes. The images on your storefront are yours to choose, so mockups made elsewhere can be uploaded to the same products without affecting fulfilment at all.

Printify or Printful, which has better mockups?

Close enough that it should not decide anything, and they have been one company since merging in November 2024, with both brands maintained. Pick between them on production model, print quality and delivery, not on the generator.

Why do my Printify listings look generic?

Because the scenes are shared across the platform. Thousands of sellers draw from the same models and backdrops, so identical staging is expected. It only costs you when a competing listing uses the same shot.

Do I need to leave Printify to improve my images?

No, and it is usually the wrong move. Fulfilment and image-making are separate decisions, and improving the second does not require disturbing the first.
